One day, the
unfortunate animal chosen was a rabbit. He was really afraid of dying so
instead of going to the Lion at the appointed time, the rabbit waited until after
lunch.
The Lion was
very angry when the rabbit eventually appeared and demanded to know why he had
arrived late. The fearful rabbit told the Lion that he had been late because
there was another lion in his kingdom who also wanted to eat him. He had been
hiding from this other lion! When the King heard this he ordered the rabbit to
take him to the other lion.
The rabbit
took the lion to a huge pool. When they were
close to the water, the rabbit suggested to the King that he creep up very
slowly and look over the edge of the bank. To his surprise when the King did this he saw
another lion in the water looking up at him.
“That is the
other lion who wants to eat me,” cried the rabbit!
The king was
very angry and jumped at his own reflection thinking he was attacking a rival.
Unfortunately for him however that part of the pool was very deep and as he could
not swim, he soon disappeared below the surface of the water, never to be seen
again.
Thus the
rabbit freed himself and all the remaining animals from the lion’s jaws!

to the lion?
In order to please the king. By
presenting themselves to the lion he would not need to spend so much energy
hunting and therefore need to kill less of them to replenish his energies.

No!

Because he had devised a plan. For
that plan to work he needed the King to be very angry.

Because he wanted to show the other
lion that he was the king in his kingdom.

Yes, because he was able to trick the
lion into fighting himself. (The rabbit was too weak to take on the lion in a
